The Achievement Academy at Jane Boyd Community House is an out-of-school program for kids in the Cedar Rapids area!

New applications must be submitted each year for every child. (Applications open in the spring for Summer Camp 2025 as well as After School ’25-’26

A physical exam from within the last year, vaccination record, and 2024 W2s for each household member of the child’s primary address must be included/attached to the application

Programming at achievement academy

After School Program

  • Ages: Kindergarten through 5th Grade
  • Pick up from Johnson STEAM Academy and Grant Wood Elementary (Students from other schools can attend if families provide their own transportation)
  • Program hours are 3:50 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Snack provided
  • Academic, physical, and social/emotional activities provided
  • Occasional Full Day Program from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when schools are closed for staff training, etc.
  • Coe College Students provide social studies and science labs with kids in the fall as well as individual reading tutoring in the spring

Summer Camp

  • Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Ages: Kindergarten through soon-to-be 6th graders
  • 10 week program
  • Part-time care available
  • A fun program with a focus on academic and social/emotional activities while school is out!
  • Field trips each week: Kernel’s Game, Indian Creek Nature Center, local parks/splash pads, Cedar Rapids pools, Wickiup Hill, Pinicon Ridge Park, local libraries, Children’s Museum and more!
  • Summer Partnerships: We partner with several organizations in the community to keep kids engaged with new activities, ideas, and to enhance learning.
    • Vision to Learn: nonprofit that conducts eye exams and helps provide glasses if necessary
    • Iowa State Extension and Outreach: Provides Kids in the Kitchen programming where kids learn about healthy foods, kitchen safety, and skills
    • Girl Scouts: Come visit us and do activities, while introducing youth to Girl Scouts values
    • KCRG: Partner with Coats for Kids to get youth coats each fall
    • Coe College: Week-long reading camp for 3rd graders

Winter and Spring Breaks

  • Week-long programs
  • Ages: Kindergarten through soon-to-be 6th Graders
  • Program with a focus on social/emotional learning activities while school is out
  • Field trips to local libraries, the Children’s Museum, Wickiup Hill, parks, Bender Pool, Old McDonald Zoo, local greenhouses, and more!
  • $15 per day
  • Any youth 5-11 can attend as long as application and documentation is submitted

Payment

We have a sliding scale fee. Weekly payment rates are based off your household’s annual gross income from previous year. 

We also accept CCA/Block Grant – Child Care Assistance through the state. Please visit this website for information on CCA

Achievement Academy is now offering gym rentals at Jane Boyd Community House!

  • Gym with full size basketball court and bleachers can be rented for $55/hour
