After School
Achievement Academy
The Achievement Academy at the Jane Boyd Community House provides after-school programming during the school year and summer programming for children living in the Cedar Rapids School District.
Parents
Parents as Teachers
Parents as Teachers is a free and voluntary family education and support program designed to provide practical, timely information to all families on child development.
The program is available to anyone who has a child prenatal to age five or kindergarten entry and lives in Dubuque county. Parents as Teachers is based on the truth that parents are the first and most influential teachers of their children and that the early years lay the foundation for a child’s life.
Personal Home Visits
The program offers two, one-hour home visits per month designed to provide information and support for parents.
Group Meetings
Families have the opportunity to meet with other parents to share experiences and discuss parenting topics. Children are included in the group time and there are planned activities for parent and child interaction.
Screening
A parent educator will assess the child's overall development as well as health, hearing, and vision. Lead levels, immunizations, and dental are also monitored.
Connection to Community Resources
A parent educator can link your family to services in the community not offered by the program.

Cornerstone
Family Development and Self-Sufficiency (FaDSS) Program
Focusing on a family’s strengths this voluntary program helps those at risk of long-term welfare dependency become self-sufficient. The foundation of the program is regular home visits where the Family Development Specialist works closely with families, breaking down goals into small steps that will lead to success.
